The Mnarani Aquarium was constructed for scientific and environmental protection purposes close to the white lighthouse in Nungwi. The hawksbill sea turtles that the neighbourhood fishermen find injured in the ocean are captured and brought to such an aquarium. They let them return to the open water after they have recovered.
